MHPS Helps Independent Power Producer Offer Record Lowest Cost of Electricity with Ultra-Reliable J Series Advanced Class Gas Turbines

MADRID, SPAIN – (November 18, 2016) Iberdrola SA today presented Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) with its Global Supplier of the Year Award at an event held at its San Agustin del Guadalix technology campus outside of Madrid. The award recognizes the key role MHPS played in Iberdrola's ability to offer record low cost of electricity and proven reliability as Mexico expands its electrical grid with highly efficient natural gas power generation.

The Iberdrola Best Global Supplier of 2016 Award was presented by Iberdrola Chairman and CEO Ignacio S. Galán to MHPS Americas Chairman of the Board Koji Hasegawa. "This award recognizes MHPS for its commitment, technological capabilities and competitiveness enabling Iberdrola Mexico to be awarded by CFE for power purchase agreements for combined-cycle power plants at Escobedo and Topolobampo II based on the J-series advanced class gas turbine," said Galan. "These projects solidify Iberdrola's position as Mexico's largest independent power producer, and MHPS's proven product performance and reliability was a critical enabler for our project.

"Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems is proud to receive the Iberdrola Global Supplier of the Year Award," said Hasegawa. "Iberdrola is a leading global energy producer and our partnership in Mexico reflects the common philosophy our two organizations share when it comes to meeting growing needs for electricity in developing economies in a highly efficient and reliable manner using proven products and industry-leading performance. It is an honor to have Iberdrola as a customer and see our partnership recognized by this prestigious award."

MHPS has been working with Iberdrola Mexico on two critical GTCC projects. In the space of just six months, the partnership between Iberdrola and MHPS resulted in contracts for two major power plants totaling 1,740 megawatts (MW). With industry leading performance and emissions based on the best-selling J-series gas turbine, the two facilities mean a lower cost of electricity, more reliability and a cleaner environment for electricity customers in Mexico.

In 2016, MHPS signed an agreement with Iberdrola to supply two J-series gas turbines, a steam turbine and long term service agreement for the 890 (MW) Noroeste Power Plant. Located in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, the combined cycle plant is expected to be online in 2019. In 2015, Iberdrola signed an agreement with MHPS for two M501J gas turbines and one steam turbine for the CFE Noreste combined cycle power plant located in Escobedo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This 850 MW plant is expected to be online in July 2018.

MHPS has now received orders for 45 J-Series turbines of which 21 are in commercial operation and have generated over 320,000 operating hours with 99.3% reliability. An air-cooled version of the product is also available. It is the largest and most fuel efficient gas turbine in the world, and the only turbine in its size range with proven operating experience.
