Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPSA) Orlando, Florida
campus uses IDEAS program to drive productivity
(Orlando, FL – August 25, 2015) In a company where safety, quality and continuous improvement are key ingredients to manufacturing the world’s most advanced technology gas turbines, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (MHPSA) in Orlando, Florida has honored the innovative spirit and performance of its team members during a recent IDEAS Recognition Team Luncheon.
MHPSA President and CEO David Walsh stated, “Under a program entitled ‘IDEAS,’ our Orlando factory team have submitted more than 25,000 improvement ideas over the last nine years. This program reflects the hard work ethic and innovative vision of an incredibly talented work force committed to excellence in manufacturing.”
John Barrett, General Manager of the company’s Orlando Manufacturing and Repair facility explained, “There is not a day that goes by when we are not seeking to improve what we do and how we do it. We take enormous pride in finding good ideas and seeing them through to implementation.”
The quest for new ideas that aid the bottom line has created an MHPSA program in which each submission is evaluated and acted upon, no matter how small or large in concept. The program has created a broad range of breakthroughs and innovations whose resulting productivity gains and product improvements are passed along to the customer.
The company wide effort reflects a thoughtful, deliberate approach that challenges the MHPSA team to explore new and innovative ideas. There are performance benchmarks and a steering committee that play a role in this effort that is coordinated by a Continuous Improvement Group. This has led the company to find new idea activators that focus on specific areas such as safety, manufacturing and how best to integrate new technologies.
“We greatly value all new ideas from our team and we constantly encourage continuous improvement and change,” offered Mr. Barrett.
